General

This feature request forum allows you to submit, comment on and vote for GitLab CE/EE/CI features.

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can vote and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can vote on it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Display moved files with a single line instead of the entire diff

When a file is moved in a git repository, by default git diffs show the file as having been removed from the repository and then re-added. This causes a lot of clutter when viewing diffs, especially if the moved files are thousands of lines long. The `git show` command already has a flag `-M` that shows something like this:

    diff --git a/applications/KnockKnock/src/KnockKnockClient.java b/applications/KnockKnock/src/main/java/KnockKnockClient.java
    similarity index 100%
    rename from applications/KnockKnock/src/KnockKnockClient.java
    rename to applications/KnockKnock/src/main/java/KnockKnockClient.java

It doesn't seem like it would be very hard to implement this in the commit view of GitLab.

    • Option to compare specific files/directories in the compare view

The "Compare" tab now enables us to compare different revisions in the entire repository, but sometimes we need to compare only sub-directories or files.

Can you add the option to compare the revisions of a specific file/directory between different revisions/branches?

      • Add uploadable project icons

It would be great to have icons for projects like the icons on the groups that are recently added to GL.

You could add the app-icon of a mobile app to the project to have a fast visible distinction between the projects.

These icons should be shown in front of the group and project names everywhere in gitlab (Dashboard, Project list, etc..)

          • Syntax highlighting in editor while editing and creating files.

ACE already supports syntax highlighting through: getSession().setMode.

We only have to determine the file type. For editing, this is already done; for creation we can either determine filetype from the filename, or have a selection dropdown, or both: when you enter the filename it auto-guess selects the filetype.

            • Public SSH Keys for a group

It is already possible to get SSH keys for a user from http://gitlab.com/{user}.keys

It would be nice, if it was also possible to get the keys of all users of a group with one request like http://gitlab.com/{group}.keys

This would help to set up the authorized_keys list of servers and could be exposed eaily.
